Just like your wedding ceremony, it can be whatever you want it to be!
For our wedding reception, we had a lovely hall full of fairy lights and gum leaves, and a huge table down the middle which was gradually filled with pizza from the pizza van we hired, which people ate as they pleased.
It was a casual and fun affair, with no seating chart or table numbers. We had an outdoor area with beautiful lighting, totem tennis and an egg and spoon race. Our dessert table was full of homemade slices chosen by us and made by our family.
Why am I telling you this?! Well, hopefully I am encouraging you to think outside the box a bit!
You don’t have to have table service, you don’t even have to have tables at all! You can do what you want, just make sure it aligns with your values and what you as a couple want to do, how you want to celebrate.
I strongly encourage you to break the rules a bit! Yes, we still had speeches, but ya know what, my husband and I sat on the floor with our son while we watched them - because being together as a family mattered more to us than whether we were sitting somewhere in particular (or even in a chair at all in that case!).
We played music that we love - think Gwen Stefani from the early 2000s, and a bit of Shania Twain too - it was sassy! And everyone LOVED it! We had so much fun dancing and mucking around until the bus arrived to collect guests at 11pm.
My point is, your wedding reception can be as formal or informal as you want it to be. It can be a combination of whatever elements of a traditional wedding reception you want, paired with your ideal party vibe - there are no rules (ok, maybe there are, but do what you want).
