Custom wedding stationery is more than just beautiful design - it's about storytelling

Why do I love creating watercolour wedding stationery?

As I sit down to write this, I realise it’s a pretty specific thing to LOVE to create - you may be wondering how did I even get here?!

Let's take a stroll down memory lane…

First I better paint you a little picture - excuse the pun - of my family and I. I’ve been a watercolour artist for nearly ten years (um, what!), and my husband Will is a Registered Nurse. We have two children together, my son (Will’s step-son) Oskar who is 11, and our toddler Freddy who is two. Oh, I’m also a social worker by trade! We live in Tasmania, Australia and have written a couple of kids books together, create podcasts together AND have a YouTube channel - kinda a dynamic duo right? Also, Will has just gotten the all clear/is now in remission from lymphoma. Basically, life here is never dull.

But the story I’m telling goes back a couple of years! In February of 2017 Will and I got married, so way back in 2016 we kinda had to invite some people to come along to our wedding! And for that, we needed invitations. You can see where this is going, right?

Now, I’ve been a watercolour artist for around a decade, so it made sense for me to create beautiful watercolour artwork to adorn our wedding invitations! I even created a watercolour map that featured our wedding venues. This was my first experience creating artwork for wedding invitations, though I had been commissioned to create other invites for friends in the past.

Conveniently, at the time my sister was actually running her own wedding stationery business (obviously it's a family trait!). So, I created the artwork, and she brought it all together - she did the wording, design, printing and assembly. I definitely did not pay her enough!

Throughout this process I learnt a lot from her! It also peaked my interest in the wedding stationery world specifically - and I guess the rest is history?! Except, there’s a little more to it.

Over the next few years my sister commissioned me to create custom watercolour pieces for other people’s invitations, which I loved doing! Since then, she’s moved onto other things, and kind of organically my business moved further into that space. It wasn’t planned that way, it just happened!

I had friends, and even more wildly, people I didn’t even know, ask me to design their wedding stationery - and I loved every minute! I have learned the design tools, the printing terminology and alllll about different paper stocks - there is so much that goes into wedding stationery, and I had no idea!

I’ve now worked with countless clients to create their very own unique watercolour wedding stationery that truly represents them.

So here I am creating fully custom, luxury watercolour wedding invitations. I am so blessed to get to work with people who appreciate the beauty and craft of watercolour, and who want to showcase this to their guests in a truly unique way.

Creating wedding stationery is such a privilege, particularly creating custom watercolour invitations, because I get to work so closely with my clients to create work that truly speaks to them, and tells their story!

That’s what this is all about, it’s more than just beautiful watercolour paintings and excellent design - this is about storytelling through artwork.
